Compassionate staff praised

THE kind, caring and compassionate staff at the Royal Oldham Hospital’s endoscopy unit were a welcome relief for Christine James after her recent brush with death.
Doctors told a shocked Christine, from Coldhurst, she could have died after collapsing at home from the symptoms of a bleeding ulcer.
Christine passed out after vomiting blood caused by the condition she had no idea she had. Luckily her son found her in time and she was eventually rushed to hospital.
During her stay at the Royal Oldham she was subjected to numerous camera investigations carried out by staff in the endoscopy unit, G3.
She said they were so lovely, caring and professional she decided to nominate them for a Pride in Oldham Award.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this before so I was scared and worried but the staff on G3 were absolutely brilliant,” said Christine (63) who had to have a four pint blood transfusion and will be on anticoagulant medication for life following her ordeal.
“They really made me feel at ease and I had to go there quite a few times. They were such lovely, good humoured people. I think they should be recognised.”
Ward G3 sister Michelle Bell said: “We are very proud to be recognised for the Pride in Oldham Awards.
“We are a very hard working team and patient care is always at the heart of what we do. If it was not for the dedication of this team this award nomination would not be possible. I would like to say thank you to the public for the nomination — this has certainly empowered our team further.”
