Girls are my shining stars

WHEN they saw an elderly woman fall and injure her leg, four Blue Coat school pupils sprang into action to help her.
Twelve year olds Alice Stoneman, Ella Hornby, Georgia and Daisy Akeroyd rushed to help 85-year-old Alice Kenworthy when she missed her footing last year. Other travellers just looked on and even seemed annoyed by what had happened. The girls gave Alice water and tended her cuts.
Mrs Kenworthy, a widow from Greenacres, said: “I am so grateful the girls were there to help me. They helped me on to the bus and sat with me to make sure I was ok. They mopped up the blood with tissues and even offered to walk me home and get help. They were absolutely brilliant.”
To ensure the girls got recognition, Alice wrote to the Chronicle and the school in the hope of tracking them down. Ella’s mum Dianne spotted the letter and contacted us, arranging for the girls to visit Alice with flowers.
Their actions have resulted in the girls being nominated for this year’s Pride in Oldham awards.
Ella, from Lees, said: “I am very happy to be nominated, but it’s a shock. We’ve been mentioned in assembly at school and it is really nice that Alice wanted to find us to say thank you.”
