GOING above and beyond the call of duty has earned Royton community midwife Anne Hill a Pride in Oldham nomination.
The mother-of-three, from Chadderton, has worked in midwifery for the past 22 years ensuring the safe delivery of thousands of babies in Oldham.
As well as her daily responsibilities, Mrs Hill runs an ante-natal swimming class at Shaw Baths and ante-natal classes for mums and dads at Royton Health Centre.
It is these sessions, as well as Mrs Hill’s professionalism, that prompted Cheryl Whitehead, from Mayfield Road, Derker, to nominate her.
Cheryl gave birth to her daughter Annabelle Faye Reeves last September and Mrs Hill was her midwife.
She has credited Mrs Hill’s classes for her great pregnancy and labour, and describes her as an outstanding midwife.
She feels a Pride in Oldham nomination is a great way to say thank you from her family and other mums in Oldham.
She said: “She takes on extra duties and commitments that are beyond the call of duty.
“She runs an ante-natal swimming class and ante-natal education classes that I feel were the reason I was blessed with such a good labour and pregnancy, as all questions were answered before you even knew you had them.
“She take such pride in her work and if you were to meet her, you would see the love and passion she has for her ‘job’.”
Mrs Hill, from Streetbridge, said: “It’s lovely to be nominated and a really nice thing for Cheryl to do, but I feel a bit embarrassed as I’m only doing my job.
“The main thing I try to do is make pregnancy normal by giving as much information as possible so women can make informed decisions.
“I’m fortunate to work in an environment that encourages me to do that.”
