INSPIRE WOMEN

BOOSTING self belief and raising aspirations among women who have faced adversity in life is what the Inspire Women group has successfully achieved.

The group, founded over five years ago, encourages women from all backgrounds to take part in a variety of courses designed to raise self esteem, reduce isolation and improve skills.

As part of their success story, Inspire Women secured a £250,000 Big Lottery Fund grant this summer to develop a women's centre in Oldham and found a permanent base for their work at Medtia Chambers in Oldham Town Centre.

MILLER HOUSE STAFF

NURSING home 'heroes' at Shawside Residential and Nursing Home not only provide exceptional care for residents - but for their families as well.

Reader Natalie Howarth nominated the amazing team from the Miller House unit for a Pride in Oldham award after they cared for her grandfather James Walters with dignity and compassion while he was living at the home. But she also had a second reason to nominate them after they saved the life of her grandmother Vera, who collapsed during a visit.

OL1-OLDHAM

COMMUNITY spirit is alive and kicking among all eight members of the OL1-Oldham group. Set up just over a year ago, the group aims to improve the safety and community atmosphere among five streets in the St Mary's ward which share the OL1 postcode, making it a safer, more relaxing place to live.

Working with First Choice Homes and a range of partners, including Oldham Council, the group have so far developed a community garden in Wallshaw Street and have organised a community help and advice team for local residents.
