HILARY LOMAS
PILLAR of the community Hilary Lomas has spent years making the Limeside Estate a better place for everyone to live. From organising trips for families to applying for project funding and chairing the Limeside tenants and residents association, the sprightly 75-year-old is always available to lend a listening ear and a helping hand.
Her hard work was recognised in July when she was awarded the Tenant of the Year award for all her community endeavours.
SAJJAD MALIK
GIVING something back to devastated communities is what drives kind-hearted business owner Sajjad Malik to do great things.
Working alongside a number of local charities, Sajjad has rolled his sleeves up to help those most in need at home and abroad, from distributing aid to refugees in Greece to helping clear out homes belonging to the Cumbrian flood victims.
Although volunteering can be stressful, Sajjad said the work he does gives his soul satisfaction because helping others is not just about himself.
GREG COOKSON
HARD work and dedication has seen Greg Cookson's community group Dovestone Youth Rangers go from strength to strength.
Greg created the group over three years ago after identifying a need for young people to get involved with the local community in Saddleworth.
The Rangers, which were featured on BBC's 'Countryfile' programme in 2014, are all aged between 11 and 19 and carry out a variety of tasks including litter picking, gardening and environmental projects.
