A CAR service and repairs business has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award for its customer service.

Shaw Autopoint was put forward for an accolade by Chronicle reader Norma Sanderson.

Mrs Sanderson (79), said the repairs firm had gone that extra mile for her on many occasions, fixing various problems on the car whether it was at the Milnrow Road workshop or at her house in Shaw.

Mrs Sanderson's daughter, Carol Simkiss, added: "Shaw Autopoint has shown brilliant customer service, kindness and thoughtfulness to my mum, who has taken her car there over a number of years. The staff are always really nice to her and she's very happy with the service they provide.

"More than once they have collected her car from her home because it wouldn't start and have later returned it. She is 79 and really appreciates their help.

"The staff always tell her just to call in if she has any problem and, on occasions, have done little jobs for her at no extra charge. I'm sure they must extend this service to other customers.

"For all these reasons, I think Shaw Autopoint deserves an award."

Surprise

Garage owner Chris Hodson (40) set up his business at the Milnrow Road workshop in 2004.

Originally from Royton he moved to Shaw when he was 13. After attending Crompton House School he spent time working with Manchester Transport Training and car dealerships before setting up his own mobile auto repairs business.

As business grew, he needed a permanent site and more staff.

Today he employs three other mechanics at the Shaw base - Richard Stewart, Lewis Brennan and Ismael Sultane.

Speaking about the Pride in Oldham nomination, Mr Hodson said: "This is a nice surprise. I'm chuffed that Mrs Sanderson recognises the service that we give.

"We try to give good service to everybody. I'm glad that people notice and appreciate it."
