A GROUP of teachers at North Chadderton School has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award for helping children to progress in their studies.
Staff from the English department have been put forward for the accolade because of progress made over the past two years in increasing the number of pupils who reach or surpass government expectations.
Head teacher Joy Clark said: " I want to nominate the English teachers for their work over the past two years. These are superb results and worthy of a team nomination to the Pride in Oldham awards."
In 2015, 87 per cent of pupils met government expectations by progressing between the levels of Key Stage 2 and 4. The figure rose to 90 per cent for 2016. Furthermore, 60 per cent of the pupils achieved higher than expected levels in English.
Teacher Emma Churchouse headed the department for some of the time over the past two years and now has the title of director of teaching and learning. She said she was delighted with the team being nominated for a Pride award.
Nick Angus and Soffia Shah are now both leaders of the English department. Their colleagues include Angelena Gidley, Sarah Bagshaw, Gemma Russell, Rachel O'Donnell, Laura Garratt, Sarah Firth, Abigail Wright, Jen Foster, Kelly Sutton, Jennie Silby-Lewis, Tracy Keeble, Danielle Berney and Adam Woods.
