Thirteen top performing Oldham Sixth Form College students have each won a £500 scholarship to study at the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF).
The Year 13 teenagers received the scholarships after completing either the certificate or diploma in financial studies offered by the LIBF.
Their results were in the top 20-per-cent in the country. Additionally, they also achieved top A* and A grades in their AS-levels to qualify for the award.
As well as a range of degrees and professional qualifications in finance and banking, LIBF offers courses for schools to schools and colleges. These encourage students to become responsible borrowers, sensible savers and appreciate the need for financial planning throughout their life.
Chris Hampson, financial capability relationship manager at LIBF, presented the OSFC students with their diplomas and certificates.
He explained: “It is important for young people to be educated in personal finance and money management as these are vital life skills.
“But we also want the highest performing students to have the opportunity to come and study with us in the heart of London’s financial district.”
And Chris said that, even if the students didn’t take up a place a LIBF or even choose a career in finance, winning a scholarship would look good on job and university applications.
OSFC student Sabrina Ijisesan agreed, and said: “I’m planning to study finance and accounting at university next year.
“This certificate helped me set myself apart on my personal statement in my university application and it’s also great to have the option of a scholarship.”
