New windows for Mossley homelessness charity

Brand new, triple-glazed windows have been installed at homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley to improve energy efficiency and comfort for people supported there.

Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home, work, companionship and individual support.

During April and May, all 26 bedrooms and communal rooms at the charity’s Longlands Mill community home received new windows.

Darren, an Emmaus Mossley companion – the name given to describe residents at Emmaus – is delighted with his new windows.

Darren said: “I can now see clearly through my window and enjoy the views across the valley.

"It seems a lot quieter with the new windows, and I can close mine properly now, so hopefully my room will be a lot warmer in winter.”

A total of 48 windows were replaced at Emmaus Mossley which included 290 panes of energy efficient, triple-glazing.

Many of the old, double-glazed windows, installed when the charity started in the 1990s, had fallen into disrepair which affected their clarity and energy performance.

Funding for the window replacement project was raised by Emmaus Mossley and matched by charity partners Cadent Foundation through the Emmaus UK Environment Fund.

Cadent is supporting Emmaus communities and groups across the UK, focussing their assistance on energy efficiency, fairer opportunities and greener societies.

Alison Hill, CEO of Emmaus Mossley, said: “We are fortunate to have a fantastic building as a base for our charity but due to its age, we always need to budget and carry out maintenance and improvement works.

"The old windows were past their best and we’re very pleased that they’ve been replaced with new windows that should see us through another 25 years.

“We are extremely grateful to Cadent, Emmaus UK, our contractors and all of our shoppers and donors who have supported us in making this project happen.

"The new windows will improve room comfort and views for our companions but should also save us money on our heating bills.”

The window replacement project at Emmaus Mossley was caried out by local contractors DS Windows Doors and Conservatories and PDM Scaffolding.
