A wonderful summer evening in the company of the Oldham Choral Society

Oldham Choral Society shared the platform with the Ashton Band for what proved to be a hugely enjoyable Summer Celebration at Oldham Parish Church.
The band was in fine form and produced a varied programme, ranging from Marches to Opera, including an exciting rendering of the Test Piece used at the recent Whit Friday Band Festival, and a moving Solo for Tenor Horn.
The Choir, for its part, also had a varied offering, a huge favourite being the magnificent Coronation Anthem "Zadok the Priest." by Handel.
This, together with "I was glad" by Parry and a chance to join in singing "I vow to Thee my country" and "All people that on earth do dwell" revived the audience's enjoyment of the Coronation events.
The choir, under their new Musical Director, David Cane, were as usual very polished in their other pieces, while a word of appreciation also for their guest organist and pianist, Gary Hulme.
All in all, it was a very pleasant way to spend a summer evening.
Oldham Choral Society's Autumn concert will take place at St Paul's Church in Royton, at 4pm on Sunday, November 19.
The programme will include Poulenc's Gloria and Duruflé's Requiem.
