Royton and Crompton Over-60s group, based in Shaw, has been selected as one of ten deserving recipients of a generous grant from the Miller Homes Community Fund.
In September 2022, the homebuilder established its Community Fund initiative to provide local groups with the opportunity to apply for donations ranging from £250 to £2,000.
The second round of the Miller Homes Community Fund is now open, and charitable and community groups are encouraged to submit their applications before the 8th of May deadline.
This is an excellent opportunity for groups to secure funding and make a positive impact in their community.
One of the recipients of the first round of funding included Royton and Crompton Over-60s group in Shaw, located near Miller Homes’ Oldham development Briar View.
The group has been run by a committee locals who aim to reduce social isolation and loneliness in the over-60s.
Royton and Crompton applied for the first round of funding contributions in the autumn of last year, in hopes of obtaining money to continue their weekly meetups and provide members with activities like arts and crafts, and game or simply a place to sit and chat.
The over-60s group was granted £500 in funding from the Miller Homes Community Fund, which will go towards covering the cost running the club, along with buying crafting supplies and games for the members.
Janet Heap, representative at Royton and Crompton Over-60s Group, said “We are incredibly grateful to receive this generous donation from Miller Homes Community Fund.
"This kind donation will provide our club and members with an abundance of activities to keep them entertained over many, many months.”
Clare Noakes, Miller Homes’ Sales Director for the North West, added: “We are delighted to supported Royton and Crompton Over-60s Group with funding to aid in their prevention of social inclusion.
"They are doing fantastic work and with the donation, we hope all the members get the most out of their new activities.”
The homebuilder saw a flurry of applications within the first few weeks of the fund launching in September 2022, attracting community groups across the region to apply for support.
The initiative extended across its 10 regions in England and Scotland – generating over 400 applications.
Across the UK, 96 community groups have been supported and after much consideration, 10 worthy causes in the North West were chosen by Miller Homes staff who volunteered to take on the role of Community Fund Ambassadors.
Miller Homes’ development Briar View. consists of three-to-four-bedroom homes, all of which are sustainably built and feature spaces for home working and flexible living.
It was found in February 2023 that new homes such as these can save up to £3.1k on energy bills as opposed to older builds, according to the NHBC.
