The Royton Detachment of the Manchester Army Cadet Force have been officially affiliated to the Royal British Legion.
Present at the ceremony at the Hillside Avenue HQ were RBL Chairman, Sgt Major Brian Douglas (Ret), and their President, Major Eddy Hardaker, of 75 Engineer Regt, as they presented an Agreement of Affiliation certificate to the Royton Detachment Commander, Staff Sgt Instructor Paul Clarke.
The agreement is to work together, supporting and encouraging each other to benefit our communities.
Major Hardaker said: “It was a privilege and an honour to be here.
“I wish the cadets every success in their future military career within the cadet force.”
The cadets were then presented with affiliation patches from Major Hardaker.
Chairman Mr Douglas said the affiliation will see the two organisations working more together in the community, with emphasis on Poppy selling, Remembrance Day parades and other events.
In the past the Cadets have assisted the RBL by reading out the names of the fallen when the Royton Branch of the RBL have held their annual 'Service in Royton Cemetery' on the Sunday prior to Remembrance Sunday.
Meanwhile, the evening was also a celebration for six new recruits who, after having passed their basic training, were enrolled into the Royton Detachment in a presentation.
Sgt Major Instructor David Crocker was on hand to present the Cadets with a certificate and the Detachment Cap Badge.
