Milltown Alliance support event is a big success

Date published: 06 December 2022

Oldham West’s Primary Care Network (Milltown Alliance) ran a community support event showcasing some of the support schemes and services in place to help people and families through this winter.

This was a huge success and really well received by the community and also those involved in representing services.

Just short of 200 people attended and got to talk to representatives and share information from Oldham Council, First Choice Homes, Age UK, Social Prescribing and ABL, amongst others.

Representatives from the GP practices that arranged the event were also there.

Dr Hollie Francis, Clinical Director for Milltown Alliance, said: “As a group of GP practices we are acutely aware how hard hit many of our patients are by the cost of living crisis and winter pressures; and the huge impact this can have on both physical and mental health.

"We felt it really important to try to support as many people understand what is available for them and how to navigate through the system.

"We had so much positive feedback from all those attending, saying how “very helpful” and “informative” the event was.

"People told us they had found out information about all sorts of things from kids clubs and activities, warm homes schemes, carers allowance, tenancy allowance, and general health information.

"People seemed to really appreciate the informal approach to learn about services with a cup of tea and chat."

Given the success of the event and at the request of those attending, Milltown Alliance PCN will aim to run further events in the New Year.

Milltown Alliance consists of:
