The Oldham choir were in fine form, and produced a wonderful sound
The Oldham Choral Society helped offer a real treat to an audience at the Royal Northern College of Music when they played their part in an inspired pairing of works.
First, the Manchester Beethoven Orchestra, under Conductor Frank Lennon, gave a stirring performance of Dvorak's Fifth Symphony.
Then Oldham Choral Society condensed six days into just under an hour with a performance of Haydn's "Creation".
The choir were in fine form, and produced a wonderful sound - the Soprano section being outstanding.
Under the direction of Nigel Wilkinson, both the choir and the wonderful trio of soloists - Linda Richardson, Nicholas Watts and Dean Robinson - gave a performance worthy of such a fine work.
Oldham Choral Society is coming to a turning point.
Music Director Nigel P Wilkinson will be leaving after 24 years of service.
His contribution to the choir is immense, having built them to a prominent position in the north-west of England.
OCS's annual Christmas concert with the Ashton Band in the Oldham Parish Church, on Friday, December 16, will be his final concert with the choir.
There will be a wide range of music performed on the night, ranging from light classics to modern favourites such as John Rutter’s ‘Gaelic Blessing’.
The audience will have the opportunity to raise the roof by joining in with carols and an audience participation of the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah, which will be led in grand style by the band and choir.
The concert begins at 7.30pm and runs without interval, finishing at 9pm.
Tickets are £10 (children 12 and under £1) and are available from the Ticket Secretary on 0161 797 3583 and at the door.
