Winter programme announced at Saddleworth History Society

The Saddleworth Historical Society are be hosting an illustrated talk by John Fiddler at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14 December 2022 entitled ‘Early Textile Factory Conditions: An Oldham Doctor and some etceteras’ at Saddleworth Museum, High Street, Uppermill.

Also, at 7.30pm on Wednesday 11 January 2023, the Society will be hosting an illustrated presentation by Michael Fox entitled ‘Written in Stone – Exploring the History of Saddleworth Through Its Inscriptions, etc.’ at the same venue.

Both events are open to all, members free but non-members will be charged at £3 per head.

Refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the presentation.

Saddleworth Historical Society was established in 1966 with key aims to document the history of Saddleworth; promote an interest in the area’s past, and to facilitate historical research.

The Society’s interest and activities are wide and varied and range from family history to the domestic textile industry, the industrial revolution and the impact of the growth of the Saddleworth villages in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The Society arranges lectures and events and publishes a quarterly Bulletin containing articles on a wide variety of local historical topics. Over the years the Society has published over twenty books relating to the history of the area, many of which are still in print.
