Try out an Alpha course at Greenacres

Date published: 22 August 2022

The Greenacres Congregational Church in Oldham is to run an Alpha course.

Alpha courses are designed to allow people to discuss issues of faith in a safe environment.

The course is typically 11 weeks long, meeting weekly and it encourages people to meet and discuss, each meeting beginning with a meal where people can get to know each other; here.

It doesn't matter what stage of an individual's faith journey one is at - the course is suitable for everyone.

Jesus often would answer a friend's question by asking the friend another question.

In other words, he was asking the person to come to the answer to the question themselves.

This technique is also an integral part of the Alpha course as each session will raise lots of questions but no answers, with the intention that each participant comes to his/her own conclusion by open discussion in a small group.

It's for this reason that Alpha's logo is a simple question mark.

The Alpha course will run on Saturday mornings beginning on September 3 and November 19.

There will be no charge, so the breakfast which will be served each morning will be free!.

The times will be from 9.30am until 11.15am.

After breakfast course leaders will show a video which will raise some questions or issues.

The issues will then be discussed in small groups, where one of the course leaders will ensure that everyone can make a contribution.

There will be one full day session, which will also be free.

The Alpha course began in Holy Trinity Church, Brompton in London, and has spread to every continent and every conceivable situation.

Alpha courses run in over 100 countries and currently in 112 languages.

It is estimated that over 24 million people have taken the course.

The postcode is OL4 3EU.
