Staff at Yodel’s parcel sortation and transport centre in Shaw have raised over £3,000 to donate to Maggie’s Cancer Centre.
To raise the funds, Yodel colleagues held raffles with prizes such as bottles of champagne, chocolates, an iPad, shopping vouchers and hampers.
Maggie’s is a charity providing free cancer support and information in centres across the UK and online. Since the opening of the first Maggie's in Edinburgh in 1996, it has now grown into a network of centres built beside NHS hospitals across the UK, helping people with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.
The centre is based at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
Laura Tomlinson, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Cancer Centre, said: "We can’t thank the Yodel colleagues enough for what they’ve done for us. We are so grateful to the team for finding a way to support us over the past few years. Thanks to them, we can continue to be here for people with cancer at a time when they need us most."
Val Kilburn, Operations Manager at Yodel, added: “We were invited by Maggie’s to visit the centre in Oldham so we could see first-hand the great work they do to support people who are facing difficult times. We rallied the whole office together in Oldham to support such an important cause and we hope our efforts will make a difference. We look forward to working with Laura and the team in the near future.”
Drivers collect thousands of parcels from Yodel’s retail clients around the country and bring them back to Shaw for sorting. They are then sent out to Yodel’s nationwide network of depots for onward delivery to customers across the UK.
