The next Groundwork Prince's Trust 13-week personal development programme will start on Monday, January 18, 2021.
The programme will be based at Shaw and Crompton Parish Council, on Kershaw Street in Shaw, and is full time, running from Monday to Friday, 9.30am-4pm.
The three-month programme is open to any unemployed young person aged 19-25 years old, and over the 13 weeks the young people work on different key skills whilst working together to carry out a variety of challenges.
Included in the programme are three days of team building activities around the Peak District, and there is also to take up abseiling, rock climbing, caving, mountain walking, weaselling and problem solving.
The young people will be returning home after each daily activity.
Transport will be provided for each team member to participate in the daily activities, and all food, drinks and equipment will be provided for each young person.
The team also plan and carry out different fundraisers to pay for materials for their Community Project.
This project takes place over weeks four, five and six, and will involve the team improving an area in the local community of Oldham.
The participants will also carry out a work placement/volunteering days, plan and carry out a team challenge, which involves working with a disadvantaged group in the community.
The team then plan and carry out a formal presentation, where the young people invite their parents, friends, support workers and other people/organisations that have directly worked with the team over the course of programme.
The final week of the programme provides an intensive five days of job search.
There is a very informal Registration Day.
This allows any young person to come along and to find out more about the Groundwork programme.
They are able to bring family, a friend, family friend or support worker for moral support if they wish.
The Registration Day for the Oldham team will take place on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11am at Shaw and Crompton Parish Council.
The whole programme is free, and Groundwork provide a weekly travel voucher, and in most cases benefits will not be affected.
There is also support with literacy and numeracy during the programme.
Please note that any young person aged 19+ does have to be in receipt of benefit to access the Team programme.
