Oldham Mayor congratulate couple on Golden Wedding Anniversary

Keeping her promise to recognise townfolks special anniversaries, Oldham’s Mayor, Cllr GInny Alexander sent golden wedding wishes to Marlene and Stephen Whitehead
on Saturday (21st November).
And in a personal note to the couple who live in Shaw, she said: “Sorry I can’t join you to celebrate your special day, but unfortunately this second Lockdown means I am unable to. However, the flowers and card I’ve sent come with all my love for a wonderful day. “
The couple met in The Jubilee Pub, Shaw, where they also held their wedding reception.
Stephen trained as a draughtsman at Platts and continued in other engineering firms and worked at Seddon Atkinson until it closed. He completed his working years at Proline Engineering, Farnworth.
Marlene trained as a comptometer operator and began work at Square Grip Reinforcement. She has also worked at Presto supermarket in the Butchers department and spent many happy years at Osram working on the shop floor and in the office until it closed. Marlene ended her working life at CIS in Manchester.
They have two children, Stephen and Claire who are both married with a boy and girl each Emily, Eve, Joseph and Sam.
Retirement sees Stephen enjoying Sci Fi films, reading his kindle and eating the recipes Marlene loves to try out as she loves cooking and trying out new recipes. She also loves making cards, reading and gardening.
