Little Henry Williams has received an accolade from the heroes of the hills for helping his father after he had fallen.

Henry was on a family day out with his parents above Dovestone at Greenfield when the mini drama unfolded and Oldham Mountain Rescue were alerted to the problem.

They despatched a 14 strong squad at a request of North West Ambulance Service to locate the family who were stranded on steep ground.

And they were backed up Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team in case a potential stretcher carry was required.

Henry and his mother were escorted to a waiting OMRT Land Rover and his father was helped off the hills by other team members.

Now proud Henry has been presented with a special certificate by OMRT for going “above and beyond the call of duty” helping his father.

Said a OMRT spokesperson: “This afternoon we received a lovely message from Henry’s mum saying he’s just received his certificate, he said he can't wait to be able to drive the Land rover but for now he can help with his quad.

“We are thrilled he likes his certificate and we look forward to receiving his application to join the team when he is 18. Henry is hoping his dad will be rescued by helicopter next time.” he quipped.

The mountain rescue teams were involved for two hours 15 minutes.
