USA student interns on a Zoom call with Ascroft Medical
Following their welcome of an MSc intern attending the University of Salford, the directors of a private medical dental practice and clinic in the centre of Oldham, Ascroft Medical, have extended their support to global medical interns on a virtual basis, through their partnerships with Virtual Internships and CRCC Asia and the Academic Studio.
Joint Director and Practice Manager at Ascroft Medical, Krzysztof Zemlik, said: “We are pleased that Ascroft Medical could become a participant business in the University of Salford and Santander partnership by giving our support to a graduate.
"We are also looking forward to beginning our work shadowing with students from schools in Oldham, through the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Bridge initiative, when restrictions are lifted..
"We are building on that successful initiative by broadening our reach across the world.
"Our private dental practice receives patients from not only the local community, but from as far away as Puerto Rico, and our clinicians have trained in their expertise across the world.
"It seemed a natural progression to embrace expertise from other countries as well as the UK and Europe.
"The world is a smaller place through virtual learning and while we are still very much supporting local students we are keen to explore knowledge from the global market and provide interns who want to explore global experiences throughout the world, but with a focused career goal.”
Zachary Abate, an intern from Long Island University, USA, said: “The goal of my project was to create Ascroft Medical’s policy on telemedicine.
"This allows clinicians to conduct safe, secure, and effective remote consultations.
"This has become important now more than ever in regard to COVID-19, as many more remote consultations will be needed.”
Nathan Moorse, an intern from the University of Kansas, added: “The three courses I am specifically working on are Detection of Oral Cancer, Signs and Symptoms of Oral Cancer, as well as the Anatomy, Pathology, and Diagnosis of the disease.
"Throughout these training programmes I am researching and developing lessons on aspects like oral cancer screening, risk factors, medico-legal responsibilities, cellular pathology of oral cancer, proper ways to identify and diagnose growths when they appear.”
