Citizens Advice Oldham is urging people to check how much they're paying for energy
People in Oldham are being encouraged to save money on their energy bills this week - as part of a drive to get people a better deal.
It's currently Big Energy Saving Week, which runs until Friday.
Citizens Advice Oldham is encouraging people to get the best deal they can.
New figures show that 20 per cent of households in Oldham switched their energy supplier last year.
Despite the introduction of a price cap on energy bills at the start of the year, people could still save more than £150 by switching their supplier.
Local staff and volunteers from Citizens Advice Oldham will be running sessions to help people find the best deal on their energy bills.
They will also be giving advice on how people can make their homes more energy efficient, as well as ensuring people are getting any discounts or grants they might be entitled to.
To support customers to save money on their energy bills, Citizens Advice provides an independent price comparison site and a customer service star rating which ranks suppliers’ customer service.
Chief Executive Jonathan Yates said: “There are many reasons why people may be paying too much for their energy. But this week is a great chance for people to get a bit of extra advice and support on how they can save money on their bills.
“If you’re struggling to pay your energy bills or are worried you’re not getting the best deal or just need some advice, our energy champions are on hand to help.”
Energy and Clean Growth Minister Claire Perry, said: “This Big Energy Saving Week is the perfect opportunity to check your bills, use the price comparison tool by Citizens Advice to see if you can get a better deal and switch suppliers and save money.
"And of course, even if you don’t switch, you will now be protected from rip-off tariffs thanks to this Government’s energy price cap.
“This week will also highlight where consumers can get advice and help if they need it through their local Citizens Advice.”
