Past and present rugby league stars will be lending a helping hand at a community fundraising event later this month.

Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield and ex-Roughyed and Great Britain international Barrie McDermott will be amongst other crowd-pleasers present in a 13-hour-long charity rugby match.

The event, which is called '13 Hour Rugby Winter Bash', has been organised by Greater Manchester Police in an effort to raise funds for Mahdlo Youth Zone.

Other big names that will be involved include former Leeds and Warrington Wolves captain Lestyn Harris and current Salford Red Devils loose-forward Mark Flanagan.

The battle will take place on January 26 at Mahdlo Youth Zone itself, on Egerton Street, Oldham between 7am-8pm.

And it will see a GMP Oldham team face 13 different teams for an hour each in a gruelling session.

The various teams include schools, local children and the rugby league figures.

A similar GMP-organised event took place last year where a 24-hour-long football match raised £5800 for Mahdlo.

The centre has welcomed over 12,000 children from the community through the doors, but relies on fundraising in order to run.
