Oldham youth centre, Mahdlo, has received a £3,500 boost from the Oldham Business Awards.
Volunteers who help organise the annual business awards presented a cheque to Mahdlo during a recent networking breakfast event.
The Oldham Business Awards organisers have also given a similar donation to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, as they support a number of local charities with funds raised through the awards ceremony and other events through the year.
At Mahdlo, Mike Doran, the chief executive of the youth zone charity, was presented with a cheque from awards steering group members Kashif Ashraf, Dawn Torrington and Martyn Torr.
The latest donations follow the recent annual Oldham Corporate Quiz, held at the White Hart restaurant in Lydgate, which helped to raise funds for good causes chosen by the awards steering group.
The winning team at that event was Physio Matters, based at Hollinwood Business Centre, who had entered the annual Corporate Quiz for the first time.
The quiz was hosted by Torr, of events and PR firm New Image.
He said: "We’re delighted to give this donation to Mahdlo, which does such excellent work with youngsters across the borough.
"Many local businesses support Mahdlo’s work and the Oldham Business Awards is proud to offer its support too.
“Looking ahead to 2019, the awards steering group has set a target to raise £25,000 for local charities, which will be the highest amount given since the awards started 11 years ago.
"Included in this we would like to send a deserving Oldham family on a holiday of a lifetime, whether that be a trip to Disneyland or Lapland or something similar.
"We’re looking at a few options and more news will follow over the coming months.”
He added: “Entries and nomination for the 2019 Oldham Business Awards are now underway with the deadline of December 21.
"Please visit our new website and submit your nominations for the 2019 awards.
"Furthermore, please encourage your customers and suppliers to do the same.
"We are delighted that Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers has become the 2019 Oldham Business Awards headline sponsor.
"Pearson has supported the business awards since the start over 10 years ago.
"It’s great that such a major Oldham company is putting its name to the biggest annual business event in Oldham."
