Dogs Trust Manchester is celebrating finding forever homes for more than 3,500 dogs in the four years since it opened.
And there is cause for double celebration as two-year-old greyhound Riley, who has been at the rehoming centre for more than a year, has finally found his special someone.
Dawn Bishop, who has been the Manager at the Denton-based rehoming centre since it opened in October 2014, said: “Thanks to local dog lovers, and some who have travelled from as far away as Scotland, we have found homes for 3,578 dogs.
“Most dogs stay with us for just under a month, but the lovely Riley has been with us since June last year so we are delighted that we will be waving a very fond farewell to him very soon.”
Since the centre opened, the team have rehomed dogs of all shapes and sizes from Saint Bernards to Shih Tzus, but the team say the joy of seeing them leave the centre with their excited new families never fades.
Dawn said: “It is always wonderful to see our dogs leave with their new owners, whether they have been with us a matter of days, months or longer like Riley.
"Now our birthday wish is for us to find a home for lovely Bobby who we have been looking after since April after a change in his owner’s circumstances.
“Bobby, who is four, hadn’t had too much interaction with people when he came to us so he was quite nervous at first, but he has come on in leaps and bounds.
"He is a really loving and affectionate boy and he just needs a family who will let him settle at his own pace and give him the reassurance he needs at first.”
Bobby is looking for a calm but active family who love to get out and about and would enjoy doing training with this clever boy.
He can live with children over the age of 16 but would like to be the only four-legged friend in the home, and he would love a secure garden to play in.
Dawn added: “We really hope Bobby finds a home soon and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has adopted a dog from us in the last four amazing years.
"We also want to thank everyone who has come to one of our events or generously donated something, from bedding and bowls to toys and treats.
“We couldn’t give the dogs everything they need without the support of the dog-loving public, so thank you!”
