Graham's very special 80th birthday concert
Date published: 29 October 2018
Former vicar and now composer, Graham Marshall
This Saturday, November 10, brilliant young pianist Alexander Soares will be returning to Heywood Civic Centre to give a concert which will include three pieces by a former Vicar of St Luke, Chadderton (1987-2002), Graham Marshall.
Graham will be celebrating his 80th birthday that very day.
Since his retirement, he has returned to composing, and has had music played by the Oldham Symphony Orchestra.
Graham's pieces will begin the second half of the concert.
He has called the selection, which consists of two Waltzes with a Prelude in between, 'Party pieces', and he hopes they will provide a suitably enjoyable transition from the extravagantly dramatic and colourful Ravel work to the more meditative Beethoven Sonata that will follow.
Alexander delighted the audience when he played for the Rochdale Music Society in April, 2016, and he returns by special request with a programme that includes Bach' English Suite No. 3, Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit and Beethoven's Sonata in A flat Op.110.
Full details of the ticket prices can be found on the Society's website: http://www.rochdalemusicsociety.org, or on Graham's personal website: http://www.pizzicatoman.net.
Graham will turn his hand to conducting one of his light-hearted compositions, Pizzicato obbligato, from his Suite: 'Durham Days 1957-65' during the Rochdale amateur LIght Orchestra's concert on Wednesday, November 21 at 8pm in St. Michael's Parich Church, Bamford. T
his concert is free to attend.
It will include lively and colourful violin and guitar duets by rising star musicians, Oscar Tabor and Marcus Forster.
