Oldham Rotary Club President Derek Berryman, and Community Service Chairman Ray Coverley, present the Community Shield to Tesco Community champions Rose Knipe, Suzette Wright, Bridget Miller, Mike Milenko and Greg Barratt
Each year, the Rotary Club of Oldham awards its Community Shield to a company or organisation within the Metropolitan Borough.
This year the club presented the 2018 Community Service Shield to Tesco.
Community service chairman Ray Coverley told the Rotary Club meeting that all four Oldham stores were nominated for the one award, but could not be separated due to the very high quality of the charity work carried out in all the stores.
Therefore, the committee decided to award this year's award to all four stores.
Mr Coverley said to make the award to just one store would have been unfair, so the decision to award the shield to all four stores was unprecedented, but the right one.
The award was received by Community Champions from the four stores - Failsworth, Featherstall Road, Huddersfield Road, and Saddleworth.
All the stores contribute to the community with in store collections, grants to deserving causes, supporting local causes, such as the canalside clean up in Saddleworth, and practical help to individuals.
