Delph-based author and illustrator Jo Perry has published her first children’s book, entitled ‘Wish Upon a Shooting Star’.
The book, which features 45 watercolour illustrations, is available to buy from Amazon, as well as Delph Library and Swan Meadow Nursery, for £4.99.
£1 from the sale of each book bought at the library or the nursery will be donated to the library, which is run by volunteers.
The book features Dovestone Reservoir, with the idea for the story coming to Jo when she and her husband Paul were pushing their daughter Lorna around the reservoir in the pram.
In the story, Lorna embarks on a magical adventure after making a wish upon a shooting star.
Jo said: “We moved to Delph from Ashton a couple of years ago as we love hill walking and there are so many beautiful walks on our doorstep.
"The landscape surrounding us inspired the story and the illustrations for my book.
“I wrote this book for my daughter, and I have an idea brewing for the next book which will be for my son Tom.”
The couple visit Delph library about once a month with their children to stock up on bedtime stories.
Jo said: “We borrow 24 books at a time, so we take a large rucksack with us.
"The kids love picking their own books. Tom’s worked his way through the entire Horrid Henry catalogue, and Lorna usually picks books about animals.
"I think the volunteers at Delph library do a great job and we’re lucky to have them.
"I wanted to help in some way, so donating £1 from the sale of each book was the least I could do.”
