Another special year beckons for Crompton Stage Society

Date published: 09 July 2018

It’s that time of year again when amateur theatres across Oldham and beyond start to reveal their upcoming line-up of plays for the season ahead.

This is another special year for Crompton Stage Society, as after recently celebrating their 50th anniversary of residency at Playhouse 2 in Shaw, they also recently awarded theatre veteran Barrie Cottam with an honorary presidency to commend his years of dedication to the charity.

Further to this, the society have also chosen to dedicate this year’s selection of plays to Barrie in recognition of his many years of service on the production committee.

Barrie said: “I am overwhelmed by the kindness of my friends at Playhouse 2.

“For my dedication to be recognised by an honorary presidency is one thing, but to have a season of plays dedicated to me is another.

“I love being a member of our production committee and selecting plays.

"Although, it is not without its challenges, as many factors have to be taken into consideration such as acquiring rights, cast availability, and, importantly, whether we think our audiences will like them, amongst other things. But on the whole it’s great to see the season being formed from beginning to end.

“I really hope that our audiences will enjoy our choices for this season.”

As ever, Crompton Stage Society have opted for a selection of plays to suit a variety of interests.

The season starts in October with lots of laughs as comedy 'Daisy Pulls It Off' by Denise Deegan takes to the stage; followed by 'Cyrano de Bergerac' by Edmond Rostand, adapted by Glyn Maxwell in December; 'Come Blow Your Horn' by Neil Simon in February; 'Dear Lupin' by Roger and Charlie Mortimer and adapted for stage by Michael Simkins in April and lastly 'A Bunch of Amateurs' by Nick Newman and Ian Hislop in June.

With something for everyone, it’s a season not to miss.

Season tickets are now available for just £38 – gaining you entry to see all five plays.
