After popping into a Royton optician and hearing store as she joined her granddad for his hearing appointment, an imaginative ten-year-old from Audenshaw is celebrating after winning a charity competition to design a book cover.
Holly Diver, a pupil at St Mary’s School, Droylsden, won a collection of Horrible Histories books and a notebook with her design on the front, in the national competition organised by Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care for World Book Day.
Youngsters were invited to submit their entries on a special agent specs super spy theme, with all proceeds from the £1 entry fee going to Alzheimer’s Society.
Liz Watson, branch manager at Scrivens on Market Square, Royton, said: “Alzheimer’s Society is our chosen charity and this was a fun way to engage children and raise awareness of its work.
"Holly’s colourful picture was a worthy winner.”
Mum Claire Diver said: "Holly entered the competition when she went to the branch with her grandad for his hearing test. It is the first competition she has won and she’s absolutely thrilled.
"She likes arts and crafts and she has loads of colouring books.”
