Groundwork are about to start their next Prince’s Trust Team Programme in the Oldham area.
Groundwork, experts in working with hard to reach young people, have delivered the 12-week personal development course for over 20 years across Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton and Ashton, and over 2,000 young people have benefited from the programme in the Oldham area alone.
The team programme deals with managing fears, promotes team building, problem solving and communication skills, developing aspirations as well as boosting confidence, motivation and direction.
The course is free and travelling expenses will be paid and for those in receipt of benefits - nothing will be lost.
Team is fun, engaging and challenging, but provides participants with the opportunity to gain new skills, new qualifications including the 'Prince's Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills'.
Young people will also be able to make new friends and receive support into positive progression routes such as education, training or employment.
The course includes a fun and exciting residential week where team members collaborate and use their skills to overcome fears, challenges and problems.
The residential also provides a chance for people to explore the outdoors, build confidence and have a change of scenery.
Once the team has bonded they return to Oldham to explore how they can make a difference in their own community and meet with a diverse range of community organisations and help wherever possible.
This could include improving a community garden or decorating a youth club.
Groundwork also provide some additional basic training and qualifications that help the yung person's employability; such as First Aid and Health and Safety.
The participants are by now skilled up and full of confidence and are able to evidence and talk about their skills and abilities.
At that point, CVs and interview skills can be polished as well as being able to put some of those skills into practice at a two-week work placement within their chosen industry.
If you join a Prince’s Trust Team you will take part in 12 action-packed weeks designed to boost your confidence and open the door to work or training.
Sixty-five-per-cent of attendees move directly in to positive progression routes - employment, traineeship, education or apprenticeship.
The next Team in Oldham will start on Monday, May 14, and takes place at 14 Church Lane, Opposite Salt Cellar Cafe, Oldham, OL1 3AN.
