Do you fancy giving cricket a go this summer?

Shaw Cricket Club has been selected to host one of the England and Wales Cricket Board Soft Ball cricket festivals, created to get more women involved in the game of cricket.

It's no pain and all gain. Soft Ball cricket is a new, fun, fast, social game for all abilities.

Catherine Matley from Shaw Cricket Club is delighted her club has been selected to host a festival, which will be held on Sunday, May 6, between 1pm – 4pm.

Catherine said, “We are the first festival of this kind to be held in a series of 40 festivals across the county this summer and this will help us attract more women from the local community to get involved.

“The festival is aimed at encouraging new women into playing cricket and bringing their friends along to have a great first experience of the game.

"The fun and friendly games will be six-a-side, using a soft ball with under arm bowling.

"With rules designed to make the games fun, fast and easy to pick up.”

Players will receive a free glass of prosecco on arrival, while there will also be off-field entertainment, including stalls, food, music, a selfie board, raffle prizes and fun challenges.

All who take part will receive a free festival t-shirt, there is no dress code and all equipment is provided on the day.

Julie Durrant, Lancashire Cricket Foundation’s Women’s Soft Ball Festival Coordinator, added, “We are delighted to be working with Shaw Cricket Club to host one of our soft ball festivals. 

"This event has been planned to ensure women feel supported, relaxed and able to learn new skills in an inclusive atmosphere. Why not come along and join in the fun?”
