At their recent Annual General Meeting, Royton Townswomen’s Guild celebrated recruiting the most new members over the past year in comparison to other Guilds in the North Manchester area.
The success of the Royton Townswomen’s Guild is attributed to the varied events, activities and outings they offer, as well as the friendliness and enthusiasm of its members.
To acknowledge this achievement, a Membership Shield was presented to them by Kathleen Oliver, Secretary of the North Manchester Federation.
Royton Townswomen’s Guild actively fundraise for charity, choosing a different one each year in which to focus their efforts on. So, at the AGM, they also took the opportunity to present their chosen charity of last year, the Alzheimer’s Society, with a cheque totalling an impressive £1500.
Barbara Micklethwaite, Chairman of Royton Townswomen’s Guild, said: “We are delighted to present the Alzheimer’s Society with this substantial cheque. It goes without saying that we couldn’t do this without the constant generosity and efforts of our members.
“We are also thrilled to have been recognised for welcoming the most new members over the last year.
"In order for organisations like ours to survive, we rely on new people joining us and we want to make our Guild as approachable and accessible as possible.
“The best way to describe Royton Townswomen’s Guild is as an extended family; with friendship and fun being at the forefront of our agenda.
"Based on this, who wouldn't want to become a Townswoman?”
Royton Townswomen’s Guild currently has around 60 members, with new ideas being regularly introduced to keep it fun, interesting and entertaining.
Their chosen charity this year is Parkinson’s UK, with lots of events and activities being planned throughout the year in aid of this.
