It's time to get out for a good walk
Date published: 05 February 2018
Walking Week returns next week, and Oldhamers are being urged to get involved.
In conjunction with Greater Manchester Walking Week, a number of different walks have been planned in and around Oldham during the half-term break, so why not begin a new fitness drive, enjoy a view from the hills, learn a little history, or simply improve your navigation skills.
This Saturday walks include the Pokemon and Potatoes in the Park at Alexandra Park, then on Sunday there’s the Dobcross Circular and the Greenfield/Diggle Circular.
On Tuesday (20th) why not try the Waterhead Park to Strinesdale walk, or on Wednesday the Greenfield Trek.
There’s a Chadderton Hall Park to Foxdenton Park and return walk on Friday, February 23, then a hilly walk from Alexandra Park on Saturday, the ‘Pootle over the Pike’.
Walkers can take the opportunity to visit an area they haven’t been to before, learn something about their local surroundings or seek out spectacular views from higher ground.
Don’t forget to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes or boots for all walks.
Winter weather can be unpredictable so be prepared with a waterproof coat or jacket.
Wearing a few layers is advisable so you can take one or two off if you warm up.
Be sure to bring water and a snack as not all walks offer opportunities for refreshments.
Participants are asked to arrive 10 minutes before a walk begins so that they can locate the group and be ready to start the walk at the right time.
