Oldham Boxing’s Saul Griffith brings another national title home

Date published: 24 March 2025

The legacy of Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Club continues to grow as Saul Griffith added another national title to the club’s impressive collection.

Competing in the Junior National 80kg Final at the Wigan rugby ground, Griffith faced a tough challenge in Osin Laughlin from Walcott Boxing Club - a skillful and awkward southpaw known for his tricky style.

Despite having less than ten contests under his belt, Griffith showcased his exceptional boxing IQ, composure, and determination to handle his opponent with confidence.

His ability to rise to the occasion and secure victory is yet another example of Oldham Boxing’s ability to produce champions, regardless of experience on paper.

Griffith’s victory is not just a personal achievement - it’s a continuation of a winning tradition at Oldham Boxing.

Many of the club’s fighters have claimed national titles despite having limited experience, proving that world-class coaching, dedication, and the right mindset can overcome any obstacle.

Now, with a national title to his name, Griffith has earned a call-up to the England Junior team.

His journey is just beginning, and he now sets his sights on representing his country and progressing into the Team GB programme, following in the footsteps of his successful stablemates.

Head coach Eric Noi said: "This achievement wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the coaches who give their time and energy every day to support young athletes, as well as the sponsors who help keep the club running.

"A special thank you goes out to Mahdlo and Positive Steps, who are currently hosting the team while the gym undergoes refurbishment.

"They’re not like us."
