Oldham RUFC on the lookout for new players

Date published: 31 October 2024

Oldham RUFC are on the lookout for new players of all age groups to join them at Manor Park.

Winger Reece Blakeley and fly half Megan Hobin have spoken about what playing for Oldham means to them.

Reece said: "I started playing rugby a year and half ago and I haven’t looked back since.

"I’m in love with the sport, with Oldham Rugby Union being the reason.

"This club will always be special to me as mentally it helped me a lot, being able to laugh everything off with the lads, getting stuck in on the pitch and the feeling of scoring a try.

"When you step out onto the grass everything goes away, all you think about is rugby.

"It’s come to the point where these people I could call them family and I can’t thank them enough.

"One of the best decisions I've ever made was playing for this club.

"There is no club like this one."

Megan added: "I started playing for rugby union in August, 2023 and I have never doubted my decision once.

"Playing with Oldham is like playing with my family.

"When I joined Oldham, I was new to union and didn’t have a clue what to do, and now playing 10 to this day my passion grows for the sport.

"Rugby is just not about scoring tries or making a great tackle, but a great place to learn something new and create memories.

"The club is special to me as a player because through the bad days I know I can go to training and leave with a smile on my face and have no judgement made against me.

"My bond with the girls grows stronger and stronger every time we train, which makes game days even more special, whether that’s a win or loss.

"I'm proud to represent Oldham."

If you're new to the game or have previous experience, there are places available in Oldham's mini, junior and senior teams, all with RFU qualified team managers and coaches.
