The UK’s leading mixed-tenure developer, Vistry Group, is supporting Oldham student and aspiring electrician, Daniel Ferris, on his road to the WMF World Muaythai Championships in Thailand in March, 2025.
Having started out in the sport aged nine at his local club, Isaan Gym, Daniel (now 16) has already achieved British, Celtic and two Novice titles in Muaythai (also known as Thai boxing).
In March, he was selected to represent Team GB at the 2024 World Championships in Thailand and won the silver medal in his weight category.
With the journey to the annual tournament self-funded, Daniel has received sponsorship from Vistry Group, to support his journey to the next championships, in hopes of winning a Gold medal.
Daniel’s father, Chris, is an assistant site manager for Vistry at its Countryside Homes’ Hartshead View development in Oldham.
The sponsorship will enable Daniel to continue training four times a week in preparation, as well as covering the cost of travel and accommodation for the tournament.
As a student at Hathershaw College, Daniel was recently recognised for his sporting achievements at the Oldham Rotary Club Student of the Year awards.
Daniel was the first student from the college to receive this prestigious award.
Vistry Group's partnership with Daniel will extend beyond the sponsorship, as he has already secured an electrical apprenticeship with DDG Plumbing and Heating Solutions Ltd and DDG Electrical Ltd and will be working at the Hartshead View development after completing his GCSEs.
Joe Turner, Managing Director, Manchester and Cheshire East Vistry, said: “Daniel’s achievements in his sporting career have been amazing, and we’re proud to be supporting him as he continues to progress towards securing the ultimate title of world champion.
"Muaythai is one of many sports that is under funded and relies on sponsorship, which is why we’re more than happy to make it possible for Daniel to have the opportunity to represent his country at a sport he loves.
“In addition to his Muaythai skills, it’s great to see Daniel pursue a career in the built environment sector with his apprenticeship.
"Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for people to learn whilst on the job and see first hand what’s involved in the role.
"We look forward to welcoming Daniel to our site team at Hartshead View and supporting him in achieving his sporting and career goals.”
