A stunning Kane Wallwork strike earned a big award at Avro FC on Saturday night.
It came as little surprise to most fans of the Northern Premier League Division One West side that Wallwork's long-range effort against Clitheroe on September 16, 2023 won the goal of the season prize.
The cracking strike garnered 3m views on X, formerly known as Twitter, and stirred a lot of conversation about the beauty of the goal.
First-team captain Jake Cotterill had initially scored from a corner soon before Wallwork's strike, but the referee ruled play on.
Instant karma then occurred as Wallwork took matters into his own hands from way out near the half-way line.
"So basically the goal had already gone in from the corner so I just kind of hit it out of anger and that happened," said Wallwork when he accepted his award, to chuckles from the audience.
"Everyone at the club is elated by Kane's award from the league for achieving goal of the season," said a spokesman from the club.
Wallwork has confirmed that he will be back for the 2024/2025 season.
