Derker Muay Thai hopeful Flight laps up the Bangkok experience

Date published: 03 June 2024

Nineteen-year-old Muay Thai fighter Ethan Flight from Derker has made a dream professional debut at the legendary Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok - a venue widely regarded as the pinnacle of world Muay Thai.

Ethan, who fights out of the Isaan Muay Thai training centre in Oldham and is trained by Ste Donnelly, has spent the last three months In Thailand training at some of the best gyms in Bangkok learning his trade.

Ethan said: "This was a dream come true.

"I’ve only been traing a few years and spending time in Thailand has been amazing and I’m planning on staying till the summer in order to gain even more experience.

Isaan head coach Donnelly said: "I’m extremely proud of Ethan.

"I don’t think people realise how huge this achievement is for Ethan fighting at Raja.

"I actively encourage all my boxers to go to Thailand for a period to train and study and embrace the Thai culture

"I only know one other person from Oldham who had fought in one of the main stadiums in Bangkok and that was  Isaan's Tommy Lowe, who fought at the Lumpini stadium in March, so we must be doing something right.

"As they say, the rest is history."
