Road Runners celebrate diverse running and mature athletes

Date published: 23 May 2024

Royton Road Runners recently showcased their club’s diversity and camaraderie at the 5k Track Session, a key event in their club championship series.

Held at Radclyffe School track in Chadderton, the race attracted 60 participants, highlighting the growing appeal of track racing among members.

Royton Road Runners have expanded beyond road running to include trails, fells, cross-country, marathons, and track races.

This variety in training and racing has significantly improved members' performances.

The newly-resurfaced track at Radclyffe School is ideal for developing form and technique, making it a favourite for interval training sessions.

The club is known for its supportive atmosphere.

During the 5k track race, members cheered and encouraged each other, creating an electric environment.

With professional chip timing and detailed lap time printouts, participants received comprehensive performance feedback.

Royton Road Runners proudly celebrate the achievements of their mature runners too.

Notable performances included Dave Phillips (MV80) and June Allingan (FV80), who both won their respective groups.

Barry Greaves (MV65) achieved his first sub-20-minute 5k in years.

These outstanding results demonstrate that running is a lifelong sport offering immense benefits at any age.

Royton Road Runners welcome new members of all levels.

Whether aiming to get fit, lose weight, meet new friends, or improve running times, the club offers sessions catering to all.

The inclusive and supportive community makes running enjoyable and fulfilling.
