MOTOR SPORT: Oldham speedster Matthew Haughton defended his Monoposto Moto1000 2023 Championship title with a stellar performance at Snetterton at the weekend.
He delivered a class lap record, three fastest laps and two overall wins on the 200 circuit.
Matthew reduced the class lap record by three seconds and ended the final race 46 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor in the mixed class singleseater grid.
A snapped chain in his superbike engine racing car meant he didn’t finish the first race.
A team effort from the Shropshire-based team, Perpetuum Motorsport, along with other competitors providing parts, meant he got out for two of three races.
2023 was very successful with class trophies, class championship win and the Monoposto Racing Club Sunbac Champion award which goes to the best newcomer and provides a free entry to a race meeting the following season.
All Matthew's 2023 trophies were photographed at Snetterton as a motivation for the 2024 defending season.
Team mates David McCalium, in the same class, claimed fourth place in class on his debut race.
Team Principle, Andrew Wheals, qualified first in class and seventh overall in his F3 powered by Suzuki Hyabusa.
This Monoposto grid had the most F3s seen on a single grid since British F3 in 2008.
Andrew took two class second places on his debut outing in this formula.
Matthew is next out at two iconic GP circuits, Brands Hatch on May 19 and Silverstone on June 8/9.
