Talented Oldham swimmer Sophie Power
Talented young Oldham Seals swimming prospect Sophie Power has been chosen to compete at the prestigious Summer Regional Championships later this year.
Sophie is 11 years old and has been swimming with her home club Oldham Seals since June, 2021.
Initially training three evenings a week under the supportive and dedicated eye of the Head Coach Zoe Carter, Sophie found her passion and talent for the sport.
Sophie, who is always driven and aims to achieve 100% in all she does, then progressed and joined the Oldham Aquatics advanced training squad in Februray, 2023, where she has been mentored and coached through the clubs competitive squads by John Patterson, Leah Patterson and now Matt Lee, who himself trains and competes with the Oldham Aquatics Masters squad.
Utilising and channelling her determination and all the guidance from her coaches, Sophie qualified and attended the Lancashire County Championships in January this year along with six other swimmers.
Supported in person by her family and by her coaches and swim family via a live link, Sophie competed in the 50m Breaststroke.
Due to her continued focus and drive, Sophie will now be attending the Summer Regional Championships 2024, competing in:
50m Breaststroke
100m Breaststroke
200m Breaststroke
100m Butterfly
Oldham Aquatics would like to wish Sophie all the very best for her races - she is certainly carving her path in the competitive swim world and putting Oldham on the map.
Oldham Aquatics has one of the few Masters squads in Greater Manchester coached by Vicki Morreal.
The squad, which also consists of Matt Lees (coach) and Jo McCue (Oldham Aquatics Club Chairman), will be competing at Trafford on May 11, achieving great results and no doubt receiving many medals as they did in previous competitions earlier this year.
