Oldham GEMS are keeping themselves busy

GOLF ROUND-UP: Oldham GEMS (Gentlemen Elderly Members) have been their usual busy selves on the golf course, with the Prime of Life Cup being won in style by Paul Street.
His score of 21 finished ahead of Mike McCafferty 20 and John Smith and Brian Spary both 18.
The subsidiary team competition was won by Mike Dunkerley, John Smith and Barry Handley 44.
The GEMS away day at Fairfield GC saw Brian Spary retain the trophy he won in 2022 with a great haul of 40 points, taking him well clear of Paul Street 34 and Gordon Howard 32.
Brian made it a double as he led in Brian Best and Mike Smith to a winning haul of 96 points in the team competition, and he completed his hat-trick by winning the nearest the pin prize.
A ladies Greensome at Saddleworth was led in by Jenny Knight and Jean Barnes with 36, ahead of Jean Lowe and Dawn White and Linda Kenworthy and Tracey Gill, both 34.
The Village Shield at Saddleworth had Joe Ridley the leading individual with 43, and the Yellow Ball saw Lee and Paul Rowbotham and John Moon on top with 39.
A men’s medal at Saddleworth was led in by Adam Pritchard 67 from Mark Orme and David McNeill, both 68.
A pro’s BB Stableford at Saddleworth was won by Duncan Jackson and Alan Dorrington 46, one more than Steve Wild and Denis Lamb and James Mooney and Nathan Mills.
A Stableford for Crompton and Royton’s men had the divisions led in by David Pearson 39, Martin Bottomley 40 and Samuel Travis 41.
C and R ladies played for the Golf Foundation Brooch and after a cpo on 39 Joanne Redford was the proud winner from Yvonne Jackson.
The nine-hole winner was Noreen Nicholson (14).
