Rugby league referee Adam Smith has just completed his GCSEs at North Chadderton school
Excitement is building ahead of Oldham Roughyeds moving to Boundary Park next season, while those involved at amateur level push forward in a bid to keep growing the game in the town.
They include 16-year-old Adam Smith, who has just completed his GCSEs at North Chadderton school and is set to attend Hopwood Hall College in September.
Adam already plays for Oldham St Anne's RLFC's open age team, but in February 2022, passed the course to become a match official for the game.
Starting with under-12s, he has developed and worked hard to progress to the senior game.
This weekend will see Adam make his debut as referee in a Yorkshire Men's League game at Birkenshaw.
Meanwhile Adam, who was the North West Counties Young Referee of the Year 2022 and Huddersfield Referee Society Most Improved Referee 2022, has this week been appointed to referee the BARLA National Cup final for under-16s between West Bank Bears and West Bowling at Post Office Road, Featherstone on July 2.
