The talented Shawside Juniors Under-11s Lionesses team show off their trophies
Shawside Juniors Under-11s Lionesses were triumphant at the SCI Rhyl Mitre Ultimatch Cup tournament in Wales.
After playing eight matches, the Lionesses went through to the final where they took victory after a nail biting match against Brickfield Rangers.
The all-girl team, who are made up of pupils from local primary schools in Oldham and Rochdale, have been playing in the team for a number of years, and after losing out on lifting the trophy last year in a penalty shoot-out final, returned to Rhyl determined to ‘bring it home’.
The girls were absolutely thrilled with the win and celebrated with their family and friends at the presentation evening.
Chris Duxbury, one of the team coaches, said: "The girls displayed amazing energy as well as playing amazing football.
"Every girl worked as a team player, scoring some brilliant goals and not conceding a single goal all weekend."
Billy Fletcher, another coach, added: "The girls were outstanding from the first whistle.
"They deserved to win, dominating the matches with a difference of 30 goals over the nine games that they played.
"I am so happy that their hard work and dedication has paid off."
The team are now preparing for victory in the MYSL Super Cup final on Saturday, May 20, and over the summer months will be playing in a number of tournaments.
