Title races going down to the wire

The fight for silverware in the Oldham and District Golf League’s two ‘A’ divisions is going down to the wire.
What looked a few weeks ago like a shootout between Werneth and Ashton has certainly become a three-horse race with Denton forcing themselves into the mix with an 8-0 win over Dukinfield.
That put Nigel Brookes’ side only two points behind leaders Werneth who would have been hoping for more than a 5-3 home success to keep Ashton at bay.
Ashton now trail by six but have a game in hand.
Werneth’s last two games are away, one crucially at Denton, who also have to travel to Blackley while Ashton still have to play C&R home and away and have a home game against Blackley to rearrange.
Any one of three already promoted teams could lift the ‘A’ Championship trophy with one game to go.
Brookdale travel to leaders North Manchester with a two-point deficit after a disastrous 8-0 away defeat at Stamford who will be ready to pounce if their rivals cancel each other out as their remaining game is at home to Saddleworth.
It’s top-two playoff spots that the ‘B’ club are competing for and Blackley look to have nicked one in the ‘B’ East with a surprise 7-1 win at C&R.
They could still be caught by Ashton who trail by six after an 8-0 whitewash of Werneth.
Runaway leaders Dukinfield secured their place with a 7-1 win over Denton and have a four-point cushion over Blackley in the search for top spot that guarantees home advantage in the semi finals.
Who they will play is anyone’s guess as joint leaders Castle Hawk and Oldham clash on the final day, Brookdale are only a point adrift after an 8-0 win over Stamford but Stmaford could still feature as they are five points behind but have two games to play.
