Bad week for Werneth

Werneth had a week to forget when they missed out on a chance to put some daylight at the top of the Oldham and District Golf League's A Premier division and crashed out of the cup all in the space of 24 hours.

First they lost their delayed Cup second-round tie to holders Denton at Brookdale 3.5-1.5.

Then Chris Cordwell's side failed to use home advantage to only draw 4-4 with Denton, which will have been good news for Ashton as the gap at the top was restricted to three points.

The three promoted teams from the A Championship already looks clear but who wins the division is less obvious, especially after Stamford stepped on the gas with an 8-0 whitewash of Oldham whilst leaders North Manchester were drawing 4-4 at Saddleworth.

It's equally tight in the B East but Don Slattery was happy enough to see his Dukinfield side get a 4-4 draw on the road at C&R and their lead was only cut by one to two as Blackley were only able to win 5-3 at home to Ashton.

Castle Hawk are in danger of squandering their great early season results in a bid to claim one of the top-two play-off spots in the B West.

They slipped up 6-2 at home to Brookdale, a result that was enough to take Paul Cain's side off the bottom.

And Hawk's hold on second was reduced to just two as North Manchester beat Saddleworth 7-1 - leaving it late with two of the wins on the final green. Small margins.

Oldham stopped leaders Stamford in their tracks and the 8-0 margin keeps Oldham's slim play-off hopes alive.
