Chadderton manager David Fish was proud of his players’ work-rate despite dropping two points during their 2-2 draw at Alsager Town in the Hallmark Security League First Division.

Ryan Shenton’s strike, along with an own-goal from Alsager stopper James Coates, weren’t enough as Taylor Attrell and Dave Harry struck to secure a point for the hosts.

Despite the result, Fish praised his side’s attitude.

He said: “I was immensely proud of their attitude, work rate and resilience.

“Of the 16 players in the matchday squad 11 were aged 20 or younger – including debutant goalkeeper Ross Mullett who has joined from Bradford City - and they all performed very well in testing conditions.

“It was a feisty affair and one that I felt we edged. We showed real bravery to continue trying to play our passing game as we stood up to a more physical and experienced side.”

Fish has consistently fielded a youthful side throughout the campaign and believes the transitional period will pay off in the long run.

He added: “I have talked a number of times about age and in many ways when I refer to it I am alluding to a lack of experience.

"However, with the games we have left I am likely to have a number of these young players with over 20 games under their belt come of the end of the season.

“I think that will stand us in very good stead come the opening day of next season.

"My belief is that if you are good enough you’re old enough and these young men certainly are.”

Chadderton have the chance to return to winning ways when they host Eccleshall at the ARK Fleetech Stadium tomorrow evening (8pm kick-off).
