Leading Oldham architects, Studio KMA, have announced that a full planning application has been submitted for a new residential development at Oldham Road in Middleton, on behalf of Social Value Housing Ltd.
The development, comprising 16 affordable family homes, is the first within a healthy pipeline of sites for the developer and Studio KMA, who have a long-term relationship working within the specialist housing and supported living sector.
The development is also the first to showcase a new dwelling product range designed by Studio KMA that is based upon Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), specifically a panelised timber frame system.
A new for-profit registered provider, specialising in general needs housing, Social Value Housing aims to provide high quality, affordable homes.
The team is currently looking at approximately 500 homes across a number of brownfield sites, with a second planning application to be submitted to Rochdale Borough Council for 72 new homes within the next three months.
Craig Welsh, Associate at Studio KMA, said: ”Design-led placemaking and social value are deeply ingrained within our approach to any new project and with this development we wanted to create an intimate neighbourhood that future residents could take pride in.
"For us, affordable housing doesn’t have to mean the typical ‘cheap and cheerful’ dwellings we see across the market today.
"We believe the design standard can, and should, be raised.”
Dan Anders, Director at SVH Ltd, said: “Having worked successfully with Studio KMA over the past number of years, it seemed the perfect fit that they support us with our new venture into providing quality affordable homes to those who need them most.
"The expertise of the team at Studio KMA has again been demonstrated in the quality of our application and we are excited to be working with them in a more collaborative nature on our future developments.”
Studio KMA has offices in Oldham and Chester.
