David Bellis MBE, Chairman and Founder of Oldham business Innovative Technology Ltd (ITL), has been named EY Entrepreneur of The Year Disruptor category winner for the North.
For 20 years, Entrepreneur of The Year UK has been celebrating, supporting and connecting entrepreneurs.
The programme recognises successful entrepreneurs making a positive impact on their society and the economy, and the legacies they’re building.
The Disruptor category recognises entrepreneurs with the vision and courage to challenge the status quo.
The award focuses on business leaders who are more than just innovators – they push boundaries and take steps to revolutionise an existing industry or enter into or create a completely new one.
The Disruptor Award is presented to an individual who is shaping and improving our working world and constantly striving for excellence.
Mr Bellis has created a number of successful businesses throughout his working life and has a knack for creating the right product at the right time.
He has always encouraged the set up and growth of businesses, especially in his home town of Oldham.
He has contributed greatly to the cash handling industry having founded Coin Controls and Innovative Technology and has even advised the Royal Mint.
Having turned 80 this year he’s not yet ready to retire, there’s still too much to do!
Commenting on the award, Mr Beliis said: “I am delighted to receive the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the North.
"The Disruptor category definition holds true to my personal motto ‘Satisfy needs not wants’.
"I built Innovative Technology on this philosophy, creating the products that the market needs which is not necessarily what they say they want.
"I've always tried to find a better way of doing things using the latest technology and innovative thinking.”
All of the North of England winners will go on to represent the region at the UK finals in November 2018, where the EY Entrepreneur of The Year UK will be crowned.
